A team from Aquafig Foundation had a highly interactive, educative and impactful event with the JHS students of the Jesus and Mary school to mark the World Water Day on 25th March, 2024.

The United Nations' (UN) World Water Day is held on 22nd March each year. Events are organized on or around this day to increase people's awareness, of the importance of water in environment, agriculture, health and trade.
The event held at the school highlighted these thematic areas:
- the Sustainable development goals of the UN
- the goal behind the WWD worldwide observance
- importance of clean water on sanitation, hygiene and human health
- impacts water borne diseases; worldwide and in Ghana
- practical ways of conserving water at schools and homes
Diverse and intelligent contributions from the students stirred a wave of admiration in the Aquafig Team and the school management as well. The students eloquently explained the immeasurable importance of clean water to life on earth; the consequences of water pollution and its impact on human health; and ways of conserving water.

Incredible and inspiring poems on water, written by some of the students were presented which received roaring applause from the audience.
Vacation project work was assigned to individual students, to be submitted when school resumes. The students were encouraged to be creative, innovative and original with your work.
- Project 1: Cleanup activities at selected water bodies and beaches
- Project 2: Practical way of conserving water
- Project 3: Role of clean water in sustaining peace (the theme for 2024 WWD observance)
Awards and prizes will be presented to innovative and well-presented work.
Miss Veronica Addison, the Headmistress, and Mr. Thomas Poku, the Managing Director of the school expressed their profound satisfaction of the outcome of the event and looking forward to a long-term partnership between the school and Aquafig Foundation.
